Daily Devotion with Pastor Balla for January 25, 2024
1 John 2
Abiding in Jesus

Previously we heard the apostle John addresses the Christian community with a series of teachings emphasizing the importance of discerning truth from falsehood. He begins by acknowledging the existence of the last hour, conveying a sense of urgency and significance in the times they are living. John introduces the concept of the Antichrist, both a future figure and a present reality manifested through individuals opposing Christ’s teachings, this is extremely important because Christ is our only Advocate.

As the passage unfolds, John specifically highlights the denial of Jesus as the Christ as a key characteristic of a liar and an antichrist. He establishes the connection between this denial and a rejection of the Father and the Son, underlining the integral nature of Trinitarian theology within Christian doctrine. The subsequent verse emphasizes the profound consequences of denying Jesus, stating that such denial results in a lack of connection with the Father, while confessing the Son establishes a genuine relationship with God.

In this next verse, John continues to provide essential guidance to the Christian community, offering insights that further shape their understanding of faith and the enduring nature of God’s truth in the midst of challenges. Let’s delve into the continuation of John’s teachings

1 John 2:24 (ESV) 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father.

In 1 John 2:24 (ESV), the apostle John implores the Christian community to abide in the teachings they have received from the beginning. This instruction underscores the importance of holding fast to the fundamental truths of the Gospel and remaining steadfast in their commitment to the authentic teachings of Jesus. By doing so, believers ensure their ongoing relationship with both the Father and the Son.

The verse emphasizes the enduring nature of the foundational principles of the Christian faith. It encourages Christians to persevere in their faith and not be swayed by false teachings or worldly influences. By remaining anchored in the truth, believers maintain a strong connection with God, reinforcing the idea that a genuine and lasting relationship with the Father and the Son is contingent upon a faithful adherence to the teachings of Jesus.
As believers navigate the challenges of remaining steadfast in the teachings received, the concept of Jesus as Advocate serves as a reassuring and empowering factor. An Advocate is one who intercedes on behalf of others, and in the Christian context, Jesus fulfills this role by advocating for believers before the Father. His advocacy is not only for forgiveness and reconciliation but also for the preservation of the true teachings and principles of the Gospel.

God’s Peace and many Blessings be with you.
