Interesting Quote

When money doesn’t solve the problem, you are not spending it right.

Luke 16:9 (ESV)  And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

Afraid of the Light

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.”

John 3:19-21 (ESV)

19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

How true it is that people fear the light of God’s grace and truth.

Romans 1:25English Standard Version (ESV)

25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

So we continue to proclaim the Truth.

Joy

Be Happy, at least that is what many people want me to be.  Be Happy, be excited, be full of energy. I typically shy away from the world’s view of be happy. Joy is not something that I define or make for myself. Instead I am pulled to the Scripture’s view of Joy.

Matthew 25:21 (ESV) 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

Please notice that Joy is something that you enter into, through Christ.

Psalm 16:11 (ESV)
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

The Psalmist notes that in the presence of Christ, there is joy.  Not just joy or a half joy, but a fullness of joy.

Christ Jesus shows us that joy can be combined with pain and suffering.

Hebrews 12:2 (ESV)  looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

How can Christ have this Joy?  Christ’s joy is for us to have joy, that is being in His presence (Psalm 16:11). Christ’s enduring the Cross for the forgiveness of sins was the only way for this Joy to be realized.

Christ says,  John 15:11 (ESV) These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

So in the midst of pain and suffering of this world, we remember that our Joy is not wrapped up in the things around us, but our Joy comes from Christ, who forgives our sins which separates us from God, so that in the midst of suffering we still can be in joy.

1 John 1:4 (ESV)  And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. This Joy comes from Christ, not from the things of this world.
